University Of Ghana Co-operative Credit Union Launches 50th Anniversary!!
University of Ghana Co-operative Credit Union launched its 50th anniversary on August 6, 2021. Present at the launch to grace the occasion were some past Chairpersons, past Manager, Business Associates and other important stakeholders and dignitaries.
Speaking at the launch, the current Chairman of the Management Board, Dr. Samuel N. Y. Simpson was full of praise and admiration to the forebears whose foresight led to the establishment of the Union. He asserted that the Union had its successes and failures in the past. He reported that the Union could boast of Total Asset of GHC 181,151,817.09, Savings of GHC 102,215,592.47, Total Loans of GHC 90,340,600.60, and Shares of GHC 36,447,995.21 as at July 31, 2021. He indicated that the Union has also increased its membership from University of Ghana to over 35 other institutions across the country and has over the years grown to become the largest asset size Credit Union in Ghana. He added that, the Union received dozens of awards, appreciations and certifications from CUA and the Department of Co- operatives.
The Chairman reported that the Union is nurturing a winning organizational culture through the adoption of a Balanced Scorecard (BSC) as its strategic and performance management framework which guarantee future success. He added that the new Vision is to become “A Model of Excellence for Credit Unions in Africa”. This vision will be attained on the following strategic themes as its building blocks:
- Member Service excellence
- Operational excellence
- Innovations & Business Growth
- Good Governance
The past Chairpersons supported Mrs. Victoria Akweley Cudjoe, who is herself a former Board Chairperson cut the beautiful anniversary cake. Professor Peter Quartey, another past Chairperson flanked by others unveiled the Union’s Cloth which were printed in two colours (yellow and blue).
Mr. Francis Fiayiya, the Manager in concluding announced that the Golden Jubilee is a year-long celebration which will be marked by different events.
